Camp Update

All that clay is a dream come true for play!

On Monday at Ceramics Camp, our artists jumped right in—hands messy, imaginations wide open. They began by learning foundational hand-building techniques like slab and coil construction, then took off from there. With plenty of clay to explore, it was a joy to watch ideas form, shift, and come to life as students experimented and followed their creative instincts.

We were also incredibly fortunate to welcome guest artist Robin Hrushka, a former Ordway art teacher with a Ph.D. in ceramics. Robin spent two inspiring hours with us, sharing new techniques and guiding students through the creation of a sphere-based ceramic piece. The studio was buzzing with curiosity, focus, and a whole lot of creative joy.

In Wednesday’s Ceramics Camp, our young artists have also been hard at work. They began by playing with pinch-pot techniques and basic hand-building skills to create mice and hamsters of various sizes, together forming a whole clay “family.” This was followed by slab work to create textured hearts in celebration of the upcoming Valentine’s Day and the theme of love. We will wrap up the camp by learning coil techniques and using everything we’ve learned to create anything we imagine.
